The impetus behind building a ministry focused on the Bible was to help people live victoriously in the power of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus ascended into heaven, he said it was to our advantage that he leave and send the Holy Spirit to be with us and guide us along our journey of life on earth. But if we have such a powerful advantage in life, why is our journey to the celestial city so laborious, so treacherous and why are there so many casualties along the way?

There is a dichotomy between who we are as God's called and chosen and what we do, say and think. This distinction may lead one to believe that either the Holy Spirit is not all that powerful or that there is something deeply flawed with the human individual. Most people would correctly assume that the problem is with us and not God. The Holy Spirit is revealed through the Bible as the third person of the triune God YAHWEH. Therefore, one must conclude that the Holy Spirit is all-powerful and that the problem of contradiction lies within the individual person.

The Apostle Paul describes this dilemma of dichotomy in Romans chapter 7 & 8. In his analysis, he makes several important distinctions and conclusions. Paul links his conclusions in chapters 7 & 8 to the death and life of Jesus our Messiah.

While we were dead in our trespasses, we were slaves to the law and consequently to sin. The law is good and the law is spiritual, but we are of the flesh and we are sinful. Our sin produces death and our sinful lives are shown to be utterly sinful by the commandment of the law. If we physically die in our sin, we cannot raise ourselves from the dead and consequently, we are judged by God as transgressors and law-breakers. So, as long as we are living in the flesh, we cannot fulfill the righteous, spiritual requirement of the law and we remain in bondage to the law and are condemned to death because of our sin.

Our only hope of being released from this predicament is death itself, but then comes judgement! If life in the flesh is “check” then death in the flesh is “check-mate”, game over. We cannot win.

The feeling is universal, from theology to popular culture we need a hero, someone who is by nature different and who has super-power. In the words of the popular song, “Holding Out for a Hero”, recorded by Bonnie Tyler:

"I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night. He's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast and he's gotta be fresh from the fight… He's gotta be sure, and it's gotta be soon, and he's gotta be larger than life!”

Those words could not be more true to sum the human condition in terms of spiritual reality. Christ is our hero, he is strong, fast and scarred from the fight. He is our sure foundation, he will be with us soon and he is larger than life! Through the body of Christ, we have died to the law and have been released from the law to serve God and others in the new way of the Spirit.

Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code. Romans 7:4-6 ESV

This new way in the Holy Spirit is the only way in God.

You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. Romans 8:9 ESV

We started SonicBiblia to help people live victoriously in the Spirit and be conquerors in Christ. At its core, that means living in faithfulness to God and in obedience to the Messiah. Our desire is that we would all live by the power of the Holy Spirit and in obedience to God.

Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me. Colossians 1:28-29 ESV

God is making us into brothers and sisters of Christ,

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:28-29 ESV

who live not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:5-6 ESV

What better way to set your mind on the Spirit, than to read and remember the very words of God while living under the new covenant in Jesus’ blood! So we created SonicBiblia, where you can discover the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and where you can read it, hear it and remember it later! To learn more about meditating on God's word and memorizing Scripture, read the article, "Theology and Scripture: why memorize and meditate?".

May God be with your spirit. Soli deo gloria!
